These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Civic Duty mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service") operated by Sierra Paw LLC ("we," "us," or "our"). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. About the Service
Civic Duty provides plain-English summaries of federal and state legislation, representative voting records, campaign finance information, and news media analysis sourced entirely from public record. The Service is intended for informational purposes only.
The Service does not provide legal, political, financial, or professional advice. Nothing in the Service constitutes a recommendation to vote for or against any candidate, party, or piece of legislation. All information is presented without political opinion or editorial bias.
2. Accuracy Disclaimer
Legislative data, voting records, and representative information are sourced from public government databases including Congress.gov, OpenStates, and the Federal Election Commission. While we make reasonable efforts to ensure accuracy, we do not guarantee that information is complete, current, or free from error. Data may be delayed or incomplete due to the nature of public data sources.
Bill summaries are generated for informational purposes and may not reflect the complete legislative text. Always consult official government sources for authoritative legislative information.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years of age to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this requirement. The Service is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
4. Your Account
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at help@civicdutyapp.com if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
You may delete your account at any time from within the app. Upon deletion, your personal data will be removed within 30 days in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
Attempt to scrape, copy, or redistribute our data or analyses at scale
Reverse engineer or attempt to extract the source code of the Service
Use the Service to harass, defame, or harm any individual or group
Impersonate any person or entity
Interfere with the operation of the Service
6. Subscriptions and Payments
The Service offers free and paid subscription tiers. Paid subscriptions are billed through Apple's App Store or Google Play on a recurring basis. Subscription terms, pricing, and cancellation policies are governed by Apple's or Google's terms of service, as applicable.
We reserve the right to modify subscription pricing with reasonable notice. Continued use of a paid subscription after a price change constitutes acceptance of the new price.
All purchases are final. Refunds are handled according to Apple's or Google's refund policies.
7. Intellectual Property
All content, features, and functionality of the Service — including but not limited to the Tribal Gap Score methodology, logrolling detection methodology, bill analysis outputs, and the Civic Duty name and branding — are owned by Sierra Paw LLC and protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the Service without our express written permission.
8. Third-Party Content
The Service displays news articles and other content sourced from third-party publishers via public RSS feeds. We do not endorse or take responsibility for third-party content. Links to third-party content are provided for informational purposes only.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS.
10. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SIERRA PAW LLC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Sierra Paw LLC and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses arising from your use of the Service or violation of these Terms.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of Colorado.
13. Dispute Resolution
Before filing any legal claim, you agree to contact us at help@civicdutyapp.com to attempt to resolve the dispute informally. If informal resolution fails after 30 days, disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration in Colorado under the rules of the American Arbitration Association, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in court for intellectual property violations.
14. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the Service or by email. Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. The "Last Updated" date at the top indicates when these Terms were last revised.
